What happens when the classic jazz organ trio decides to step it up a notch? What do you get when you take three 30-something year-old, Real Book reared jazz musicians; a 'borrowed' Pro tools music program, some instruments and serious musicianship? The BASS MINT BROS came about after three friends watched the documentary about The Funk Brothers, "Standing In The Shadows of Motown" and thought about their own experiences as session players: Having been the uncredited, poorly paid contributors to hundreds of hip-hop and r&b projects, where 2-4 bars of their musicianship ended up as loops in the songs. Exploring the genres of jazz, soul, house, and acid/ nu-jazz, The Bass Mint Bros produce a 7-song mixtape/CD of straight up sample-worthy jazz cuts, often visiting the hip-hop song form of 16 bar verses and 8 bar choruses, complete with extended solos and break-downs.
